The weather is cooling off and its time to plant again. The sooner you get perennials in the ground, the more time they have to root out. There are many crops still blooming and looking good! We still have a good supply of all the milkweeds, asters, and goldenrods, essential for late season monarchs and pollinators.
Of course, fall is also a great time for planting trees and shrubs. We have new crops coming in including Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, Amelanchier canadensis, Witch Hazel, Sourwood, and Sassafras. Other trees of note in stock: a wonderful crop of Sycamore, B&B Pagoda Dogwood, B&B Yellow-wood, Winter King Hawthorne, and American Holly.
Evergreens in stock are Virginia Pine, Scrub Pine, Hemlock, White Pine, Arborvitae, Red Pine, Atlantic White Cedar, creeping Juniper, Grey Owl Juniper, Eastern Red Cedar, Red Spruce, White Spruce, and Pitch Pine. (It’s not too soon to think about your holiday tree — how about a small evergreen in a container? )
Shrubs in good supply are hydrangea arborescens, winter berry, and inkberry. And don’t forget about the native grasses!
