What are Plugs?
Plugs are seedlings which have been germinated and grown in trays of small cells. They can be easily pushed out of the trays and planted outside in the ground. This is an economical way to establish a large planting. Plug plantings are best done in spring so that they can establish a good root system.
Do You Carry Plugs?
We occasionally place plugs out for sale in our retail area. You can email or call to inquire what plugs might be available at a given time. Plugs are only available for herbaceous species (perennial plants). They are not available for woody species (trees, shrubs, woody groundcovers.)
We have several partner growers we work with who supply plugs, and can order them in for customers. Species availability will depend on what is available to us at the time of the order.
We may ask you to purchase the entire tray (usually 50, sometimes 32). Depending on the species we may be able to ‘share’ the tray with you so you don’t need to take the entire tray.
Payment in full is required when the order is placed. To inquire about placing a plug order, please stop in or fill out the form below.
What Species of Plugs are Available?
Species availability will change depending on crop readiness and/or its availability to us from our partner growers. Some of the species that you may find most helpful to order as plugs as those for a mass planting, such as sedges and grasses. If you are planning ahead, we can custom grow some species as plugs for you.
