Just a little of this and that…
- Veronicastrum, Culvers Root is blooming! This is a large plant with a surprisingly delicate bloom. It grows in moist sun and actually likes a little afternoon shade. Its crisp lines are wonderful in a ‘white garden’. It has special value for honey bees, native bees, and attracts beneficial insects. Try it in your woodland edge garden today!
- We have a supply of oaks grown from local acorns. We don’t have them identified to the species level, but if you are an oak expert, come on in and have some fun. Most are definitely in the red oak family. They are between 5 and 8 years old and ready to planted in their permanent homes. Specially priced at $10 each.
- We also got in a nice batch of Eastern Prickly Gooseberry: Its purple berries are prickly but relished by Catbird, Robin, Brown Thrasher, and Cedar Waxwing. The flowers also support beneficial pollinators including syrphid flies and native bees. Larvae of the green comma butterfly feed on the foliage. This small shrub reaches 2′-5′ tall. Grows in moist or rocky soil, sun to part sun.
- Last but not least, don’t miss out on some of our upcoming workshops, listed below. The dog days of summer may be upon us, but we are still in the nursery most days and welcome your visits!
